Grinding wheels - individually tailored grinding solutions
A grinding wheel is a highly specialised tool that is individually developed and customised by ATLANTIC according to the specific requirements of the application. Grinding wheels consist of abrasive grinding media, which are held in place by suitable bonding agents, such as synthetic resin, vitrified, metal or galvanic bonds.
To ensure enhanced reproducibility of the grinding wheels, synthetically produced grain materials are normally used as the abrasive.
The most common grain types used are corundum (aluminium oxide) and silicon carbide. In addition to these conventional abrasive materials, there are other so-called ultra-hard materials such as cubic boron nitride and synthetically produced diamond.
A conventional grinding wheel consists of three main components, namely the abrasive grain, the bond and the pores. A variety of fillers and additives are also available, which are useful for producing the grinding wheel or improving specific properties.
Grinding wheels are used in various areas of application, such as round, face, ball and camshaft grinding.
